The Festa di San Giovanni is a highlight of Lake Como's summer calendar, drawing in thousands of visitors to the picturesque towns and waters around the Zoca de l'Oli gulf. This ancient festival, dating back nearly six centuries, honors the island's history and commemorates its destruction by Frederick Barbarossa in 1169.
A unique tradition takes place on the eve of June 24th, where locals collect herbs and flowers, infusing them in water overnight. The resulting "Acqua di San Giovanni" is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity when used for washing the next day, a custom passed down through generations.
